Sustainability is one of the most urgent agenda items for our organizations today, yet it is also one of the most intractable. Even defining the scope of the role can be difficult — and often it seems to involve vast responsibilities, with limited authority.

"Dialogue and Action on Sustainability" is a new, significant response to the sustainability challenges. This initiative fills a critical need, bringing together top leaders across sectors to compare experiences, discuss potential approaches to key challenges, and identify action steps.

The fast-approaching United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28) in Dubai makes the need for such roundtables more compelling and urgent than ever.

The Dialogue builds on the expertise of the nonprofit INNOVO Profitable Net Zero, and The Vanguard Network's extensive expertise in convening senior executives in peer-driven, action-oriented conversations.

In this new dialogue, we look to expand on the discussions of a few to a larger, more actionable, discourse among peer leaders, focused on achieving sustainability goals — profitably.

THE SUSTAINABILITY NETWORK

• Membership will consist of C-suite executives responsible for the sustainability portfolio, or their direct report
• The Network will begin with monthly, intimate virtual dialogues (for efficiency, and ease of access), where participants can work together on immediate plans of action and potential obstacles along the way
• The dialogues will run approximately 60-90 minutes, with the appropriate length to be decided by the participants. The participants will be polled regarding the optimal date and time each month
• Vanguard will convene, facilitate, and execute follow-up materials. INNOVO's contributions will include the selection of key topics of discussion, identifying valuable speakers, and providing sustainable solutions
• In due course, the network may also include periodic longer sessions on specific topics, typically led by members with particular expertise, and/or invited guests. These may be virtual or face-to-face, as the members decide
• All aspects of the dialogue will be confidential unless otherwise agreed
• C-suite level participants who are not already Vanguard members will receive complimentary membership in the Vanguard Network

INNOVO and Vanguard are well-equipped and positioned to support the Network, and to actively facilitate the dialogues, and other programming that may develop.

Together, we will help to lead, manage and curate the program, including:

• Membership development, recruitment and service
• Meeting management, agenda setting and moderation, face-to-face and virtual as appropriate
• Developing content (e.g. videos and podcasts)
• Issuing invitations, reminders and notices
• Handling follow-up on agenda items with participants and their designees
• Producing an appropriate record of proceedings, recognizing the needs for confidentiality
• Operating as a member services team, including making warm introductions, supporting new initiatives requested by members, and creating value-adding linkages with other members of the INNOVO Network
